Since the beginning of the war, more than 248,000 Ukrainian refugees have already arrived in Canada. This is reported by the Canada Border Agency.
It is noted that 248,726 Ukrainians arrived in Canada under the Canadian-Ukrainian Emergency Travel Authorization (CUAET) program, created in March of last year. The program gives Ukrainians the right to urgently obtain a three-year work and residence permit in Canada, financial assistance and temporary free settlement.
In total, the Canadian government received almost 1.2 million applications for this visa, of which it has already approved more than 960,000. Acceptance of new applications for the program is already closed, holders of such a visa have until the end of March to come to Canada to use it.
It was previously reported that Canada expects about 90,000 Ukrainians to arrive in the country by March 31, 2024, because until that date you can enter Canada with a CUAET visa, which entitles you to special support.
It will be recalled that the US authorities have extended the period of stay of Ukrainian asylum seekers on American territory for a period of up to 2 years.
