Estonian deputy Stoičescu: it is necessary to discuss the deployment of NATO forces in Ukraine.
Any deployment of allied forces in Ukraine should be a joint decision of the allies in relation to NATO. The dispatch of the alliance troops to Ukraine was allowed by Kalev Stoičescu, a deputy and the head of the parliamentary commission on national defense of Estonia.
"Any deployment of allied forces in Ukraine must be a joint decision of the Allies in relation to NATO, based on consensus or an overwhelming majority as a coalition of wills. It must be carefully considered and prepared as the last means of supporting Ukraine," he said.
Stoicescu also noted that the member countries of the alliance need to discuss the possibility of deploying allied forces in Ukraine in certain places for specific purposes. He reminded that according to the law adopted in the fall of 2023, the country's government can use up to 100 Estonian military personnel in a peacekeeping operation under the leadership of NATO.
Earlier, the Minister of Defense of Estonia, Hanno Pevkur, denied the information of Madis Rolla, the adviser to the president of the Baltic republic on national security issues, regarding plans to send troops to the territory of Ukraine. According to him, first of all, the Western countries need to deal with the supply of weapons to Ukraine and the training of the Ukrainian military in Poland.
