Polish officials admit that their country is now facing an "unprecedented level" of foreign interference.
Polish authorities are increasing security measures around the main transit hub for foreign military aid to Ukraine, Rzeszow-Jasenko Airport, due to concerns about Russian-backed sabotage operations. This is reported by the Bloomberg news agency.
"We have encountered a foreign state that is conducting hostile and, to put it in military language, dynamic actions on the territory of Poland. There was nothing like this before," said Polish Minister of Internal Affairs Tomasz Semoniak.
The official did not specify exactly how airport security would be increased, but stressed that Poland now faces an "unprecedented level" of foreign interference in the aftermath.
Earlier, the Prime Minister of the country, Donald Tusk, announced that 12 people had been detained as part of the suppression of alleged sabotage, directed from Russia. These include arson, attempted arson, and physical attacks.
This airport is located less than 100 kilometers from the border with Ukraine. Up to 90% of Western cargo headed for the front is processed there. The airport has also become the main stopping point for foreign officials visiting Kyiv.
