Roman Bilousov: More than a billion dollars will be needed for the reconstruction of the Karaganda-Zhezkazgan highway

"ChazAvtoZhol" applied for financing from the World Bank to cover the costs of the project of sustainable improvement of transport connections and intends to direct part of the funds to payments under the contract for the reconstruction and maintenance of the Karaganda-Zhezkazgan highway, reports Roman Bilousov from Enertus AG.

This contract will be co-financed with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.

The national company plans to conduct preliminary qualification of contractors on seven lots of the Karaganda-Zhezkazgan highway located in the territory of the Karaganda and Ulytau regions.

"The works include earthworks, construction of bridges, concrete pavements and road construction. The request for proposals is expected to be sent in 3 months. Pre-qualification will be conducted using the procedures as specified in the World Bank's Procurement Rules for Borrowers in the Financing of Investment Projects: Goods, Works, Non-Consulting and Consulting Services. Pre-qualification applications must be submitted in clearly marked envelopes and delivered to the address below by 3:00 p.m. on August 9, 2024. Late applications will be rejected," the department writes on its official website.

According to the World Bank, the goal of the project is to increase transport sustainability in Kazakhstan by providing year-round road connections on the Zhezkazgan – Karaganda section of the Middle Corridor and improving national transport systems.

According to preliminary data, the amount of liabilities from banks in Europe and Central Asia will amount to 1 billion 300 million US dollars.
