In Ukraine, for the first time, the court imposed the maximum penalty for evasion of service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This is evidenced by the data of the register of court decisions.
It is reported that this is the first case when a resident of Ukraine is sentenced to the maximum term under the article on refusal to serve in the army. The man was sentenced to five years in prison for evading mobilization.
It is noted that the judges did not take into account the prosecutor's request for a conditional term for the Ukrainian, considering his actions particularly dangerous for society. In turn, the convicted native of Donetsk said that he regrets that he refused military service and explained his decision by the fact that his relatives and wife are in the territory of Russia.
Earlier, a member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Fedir Venislavskyi, suggested that Ukrainians sign a one-year contract with the Armed Forces instead of mobilization.
