40 SIM-BOX devices assembled across the country in 2024

The Department for Combating Cybercrime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, together with domestic mobile operators, continues active work to prevent the illegal use of SIM-box devices used to commit fraud in the country, Liter.kz reports.

To call Kazakhstanis via various messengers, Internet fraudsters often use SIM-box devices. They allow criminals to be anywhere in the world and make calls within national mobile operators. To do this, the equipment itself must be located in the country and use local mobile traffic.

"In total, 40 SIM-box devices were seized in the country last year, 20 individuals who assisted fraudsters were detained. In seven cases, residents of the CIS were detained. Since the beginning of 2025, two individuals have already been detained, from whom three SIM-box devices were seized in the Karaganda region. Work to suppress the illegal activities of SIM-box devices continues and is under the constant control of the department," said Zhandos Suyinbay, head of the Department for Combating Cybercrime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
